Turtle Creek Ramblers Provide Music for Spooky Mountain Drama
posted on swbmai.org by scottknick on Oct 16th, 2009
The Turtle Creek Ramblers will provide the music for a chilling tale of love and witchcraft in the Appalachian mountains being produced by the Beloit Memorial Theater.
Dark of the Moon is a witch tale strongly resembling Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, with strong Greek myth influences of the Cupid/Psyche tale, that takes place deep in the Appalachians.
John, a witchboy from Bald Mountain, having fallen in love with the beautiful human girl, Barbara Allen, strikes a deal with Conjur Woman to transform him into a human so that he can be with Barbara forever. Conjur Woman agrees on the condition that Barbara must stay true to him for one year. If Barbara stays true, Conjur Woman vows to make the transformation permanent. The rest of the witches, a jealous, vindictive bunch, refuse to let John go so easily and continually try to coax him back Bald Mountain. Will John be a human for all time? Will Barbara stay true?
The play runs October 23-24 and 30-31. The Turtle Creek Ramblers will play an opening set each night at 7:30, and the play itself begins at 8pm. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for students and seniors. You can reserve tickets at 361-3194.
Turtle Creek Ramblers Perform at Illinois’ Largest Festival

The Turtle Creek Ramblers entertained massive crowds recently at the 25th annual On The Waterfront festival in Rockford IL, the state’s largest music event. The event, a fund raiser which benefits over 100 local non-for-profit organizations, regularly attracts an attendance of over a quarter million.
“It was an absolutely gorgeous day,” said Turtle Creek’s founder David Wilson. “The crowds in downtown Rockford were growing steadily as the morning wore on into early afternoon, gathering around the elephant ears and egg rolls. The Turtle Creek Ramblers were proud and honored to be a part of such a worthy cause.”
